Easily one of the most recognizable formations in the night sky, the Cat's Eye Nebula is normally seen through visible light telescopes as it appears in the image above. Today's APOD image shows a vast cloud of faint gaseous material, three light years across, surrounding the nebula. (Click on images to enlarge, and click on the links for further information.)
