Tonight is the first of three presidential election, and one vice-presidential election, debates. Historically, debates have changed the course of few elections. If the election were held today, Barack Obama would win in the electoral college by a decisive margin, according to both State of the Vote and Huffington Post surveys, which are updated daily. Whether Obama will achieve a similar commanding lead in the popular vote remains to be seen. In that sense, both the substance and the theater of tonight's opening debate will be illuminating.
As our small mantis friend above (click on image to enlarge) seems to be gleefully saying, "Let the games begin!"
